Summary
Cathay Financial’s June survey showed Taiwanese households grew markedly more willing to spend and invest, with the current-conditions index at 32 and the six-month outlook index at 25.5.
Record readings in wage sentiment at 18.8, big-ticket purchase willingness at 21.6, stock-market optimism at 54.5 and risk appetite at 40.6 reflected support from AI-driven exports, a stronger market and easing geopolitical tensions.
Durable-goods demand still lagged, slipping 0.8, suggesting consumers remain cautious on longer-term commitments such as real estate even as broader sentiment improves.
Expectations were upbeat but not unreserved: 59% of respondents see 2026 growth above 7%, while 58% expect inflation to exceed the central bank’s 2% target.
ETF participation is broadening alongside that optimism, with 26% investing only in passive funds and 54% citing long-term wealth accumulation as their main goal.
