Flex Titanium uses a titanium-alloy film and titanium plate, replaces multiple layers with a more advanced structure, and is paired with extensive durability engineering and testing. Flexible OLED panels are already more expensive than conventional displays, and titanium-based components are generally harder and costlier to manufacture at scale. Even if Samsung offsets some cost by simplifying layers, this is still a high-end solution designed for flagship foldables, not budget devices. What buyers may get in return is a more durable, thinner foldable with a less visible crease and better resistance to drops and repeated folding. That could improve the value proposition for affluent buyers worried about longevity. But based on the available reporting, Flex Titanium is more likely to reinforce the Z Fold 8’s ultra-premium positioning than to make foldables broadly affordable.

July 22 will bring Samsung’s London Unpacked event, where it is expected to show the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 and a premium Fold 8 Ultra, with pre-orders opening the same day and sales starting in early August.
The Fold 8 is expected to shift to a wider, squarer design to better match Apple’s coming book-style foldable, with reports pointing to an inner screen near 8 inches, a lighter frame, a battery close to 5,000 mAh and 2,600-nit brightness.
Apple is still aiming for a September debut of its first folding iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line, targeting about 10 million units at an estimated $2,300-$2,500 price.
That timing sets up the first direct overlap between Samsung and Apple in book-style foldables, a premium niche that remains about 2% of the smartphone market despite Samsung’s lead since 2019.
