Thunder is a Group 5 autonomous tiltrotor built to fly as a "loyal wingman" beside Army helicopters, with Anduril targeting a first flight next year and production in 2029-2030.
Up to 10 Hellfires, 16 air-launched effects or 76 rockets can be fitted on the hybrid-electric aircraft, which Anduril says matches Apache payload, Cheyenne-like range and speed, and can operate in groups of three to six.
Anduril said the hardest challenge was autonomy close to manned helicopters; the system draws on self-driving car technology and the company's Lattice AI software, while its code has already flown for two years on surrogate aircraft.
A 40-foot ISO container can transport the disassembled drone by land, sea, air or rail, underscoring the companies' pitch that Thunder is an attritable, rapidly deployable platform for maneuver warfare.
