A photo taken Sunday evening by boater Marcus L. Martin may be the last image of the five adults before they drowned in Ohio's Scioto River, matching authorities' description of five adults in the water and two children on shore.
Martin, a pastor who has boated the river for 10 years, said he recognized the spot as dangerous because of steep slopes and a sudden drop-off, but did not warn the group because other boats were between them.
Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said one adult began struggling to swim and the others went in succession to help, with all five swept under; two women's bodies were recovered Sunday and three others a day later.
Honduras confirmed 4 of the 5 victims were its citizens, including Jose Mario Pineda Dias, 33, and Marina Suyapa Regalado, 28, while U.S. and Honduran officials continue identifying the others.
Two children, ages 8 and 10, were orphaned in the tragedy and have been placed in Franklin County Children Services care as relatives, family friends and Honduran officials work on next steps.
