Telefónica, Würth Cut Truck Volume 7% With Quantum Packaging Pilot

A pilot at Würth España’s Agoncillo logistics center improved packaging efficiency in 14% of more than 6,000 orders, trimming the number and size of parcels shipped.
That translated into a 3% reduction in boxes used, about a 7% drop in truck transport volume and more than a 6% cut in cardboard consumption per order flow.
Telefónica developed the project with Würth, TECNALIA and QCentroid, using a hybrid mix of quantum computing, AI and classical computing rather than a standalone quantum system.
The project is among the first industrial use cases from Telefónica’s Javier Echenique Quantum Technologies Center in Bilbao, opened in January 2026 as the company expands applied quantum work in logistics, security and other sectors.
