ATLAS v1.0 draws on 15 million de-identified interactions across the Gemini app, AI Mode and Gemini API to map how people use AI in work and daily life.
68% of occupations covering 90% of U.S. employment show workplace AI use, but only about 21% of tasks in a typical job involve AI and less than 10% of work interactions fully automate tasks.
86% of recorded interactions occur outside work, often for household research and high-friction administrative chores such as taxes, licensing and fines that standard economic measures may miss.
150 countries, 140 languages, 800 occupations and 4,000 tasks appear in the dataset, with Google saying per-capita adoption broadly tracks national income while some middle-income countries outperform.
Google said the study will expand as a long-term research project, using privacy protections and DeepMind's OCTO system to help researchers and policymakers track AI's economic impact.
