The shift is steep from February, when the same poll showed Vance ahead 53% to 7%, suggesting Rubio has gained traction in a key early-voting state.
Rubio’s rise has coincided with a bigger foreign-policy profile — including roles tied to Venezuela and the war against Iran — and repeated public praise from President Donald Trump.
Vance remains widely viewed as Trump’s heir apparent, but the poll adds to signs of a budding Rubio-Vance rivalry ahead of a 2028 contest expected to take shape after the midterms.
Beyond the top two, Rand Paul and Nikki Haley each drew 8%, Ron DeSantis took 6%, and Trump’s eventual endorsement is still seen as the biggest potential force in the race.
