3:42.66 gave Josh Kerr the mile world record in London, beating Hicham El Guerrouj’s 3:43.13 mark that had stood since 1999.
A 55-second-lap plan nearly unraveled when pacemakers dropped out more than a lap early, but Kerr still pulled away from Yared Nuguse and Robert Farken over the final 250 meters.
Brooks built custom Hyperion 222 spikes and a heat-tailored speedsuit for the attempt, part of a months-long “Project 222” campaign centered on a 222-second mile.
The payoff extended beyond the track: Brooks said engagement hit record levels, with more than 1.6 million YouTube views, 130,000 Instagram likes and strong demand for the race gear.
Sports marketers say such record-driven campaigns can give niche running brands mainstream reach, though they remain costly and depend on elite form, favorable conditions and a successful result.
