Summary
Landen Austin Moore, 17, was charged with murder after investigators said he and a 16-year-old attacked 13-year-old Daryl Martinez Lowry at a McCormick County boat dock on July 20.
Arrest records allege Lowry suffered knife lacerations during the fight before the two teens held him underwater until he died; his body was later recovered from Clarks Hill Lake.
The 16-year-old was taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, but authorities have not publicly said whether that juvenile has been charged.
Lowry had recently been placed in a temporary foster home run by McCormick County Council Chairman Bernie Hamby, who authorities say was asleep inside and is not accused of wrongdoing.
SLED said the investigation remains active, with the South Carolina Attorney General's Office set to prosecute the case.
