Prime Video Sets 8-Episode Carrie Series for Oct. 7, Unveils First Teaser

He is also significantly rewriting Carrie’s home life. In King’s novel, Carrie’s father dies before her birth, but in the series his sudden death happens in Carrie’s teen years and is what forces her into public school. Flanagan has also suggested a more layered Margaret White: still controlling, but driven less as a one-note fanatic and more by a warped belief that she is protecting her daughter. The prom sequence, the story’s most famous set piece, is being deliberately reworked. Flanagan has said the show will still reach that moment, but by “a completely different way,” and that what happens at prom will be “completely different” from earlier adaptations. More broadly, he says the series adds “new dimensions” by moving the story into the social-media era, where viral humiliation, online bullying and community scandal deepen the path to Carrie’s violent awakening.
