Claude Chats Vanish From Google, Bing After Public Links Exposed Sensitive Data

Summary
By Tuesday morning, Claude chat pages that had surfaced through searches like “site:claude.ai/share” no longer appeared on Google or Bing after users discovered them over the weekend.
Public share links made those conversations viewable to anyone with the URL, and some pages reportedly lacked the “noindex” tag search engines recommend to keep content out of results.
Anthropic declined to comment on whether it added that tag, though it has previously said shared chats become searchable when users post links online and that it does not provide chat directories or sitemaps.
The episode also highlighted a broader risk: The Guardian found publicly linked Google Drive files—including documents dating to 2003 and some marked “confidential”—were likewise discoverable through site-specific searches.
EFF technologist Jacob Hoffman-Andrews said “anyone with the link” sharing offers fragile privacy and urged users to unpublish old links or restrict access when handling sensitive material.
