Three women were stabbed Monday at the Two Domes brewery in Paris' Porte de Clichy district, and two were left in absolute emergency condition while a third was in relative emergency.
A 31-year-old suspect was pinned down by bystanders after the attack and was heard saying "it is Allah who commanded me," according to Le Figaro and videos reviewed by Reuters.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez urged caution on motive, saying the man made incoherent remarks and police sources described him as having an "unbalanced" profile.
The Paris stabbing followed other recent attacks in Europe, including a deadly vehicle attack at a Berlin Pride event and a fatal stabbing in southwest London, sharpening scrutiny of possible extremist violence.
