House Ethics Panel Reviews Rep. Lance Gooden Over June 10 Spending Allegations

The House Ethics Committee said it is extending its review of a matter involving Rep. Lance Gooden after the Office of Congressional Conduct referred it on June 10.
Gooden said the case is finance-related and called the accusations “bogus spending allegations,” denying wrongdoing and saying the claims came from “dishonest unelected OCC bureaucrats.”
Monday’s action is a preliminary step, not a full investigation; the committee said it will decide by Nov. 9 whether to escalate the matter to an investigatory subcommittee.
The OCC, an independent nonpartisan body, reviews allegations involving House members on issues including financial disclosure, travel, earmarks and legal expense funds.
Earlier reporting tied the referral to alleged failures to report stock trades under the STOCK Act, though the committee’s latest notice did not specify the underlying conduct.
