Summary
Brian Urlacher said he backs Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham for saying girls and women should not have to compete against biological men in sports.
The Hall of Fame linebacker told Fox News Digital Cunningham "says what’s true" and praised her for not backing down despite backlash, calling the debate an "80-20 issue."
Urlacher said Cunningham likely took a risk by speaking out in the WNBA, which he described as largely liberal, while adding that he follows the transgender-athlete issue closely.
Cunningham last week reiterated that protecting children and little girls in sports is important to her, and her comments have drawn support from Republican lawmakers including Ted Cruz and Eric Schmitt.
Why did Brian Urlacher’s praise of Sophie Cunningham turn a sports comment into a bigger debate over fairness, athlete branding, and public backlash?
As Sophie Cunningham’s profile rises, will her stance reshape women’s sports policy, or mainly fuel her image as one of the WNBA’s most polarizing stars?
