70.8% of counted votes put Gov. Larry Rhoden ahead of Toby Doeden in South Dakota’s Republican gubernatorial runoff, securing the nomination with 99% of ballots reported.
Tuesday’s contest was South Dakota’s first runoff election, triggered after no candidate cleared the threshold in the initial primary.
County-by-county and statewide totals were still being updated as votes were counted, but the result set up a Nov. 3 general-election matchup with Democrat Dan Ahlers.
