Summary
A stolen white Mercedes SUV sped through Los Angeles for about 30 minutes Tuesday evening before the driver ditched it at a downtown parking structure and fled on foot with one man and two women.
LAPD said the pursuit began near Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue in North Hollywood around 5:30 p.m.; the driver was believed armed but threw the gun from the vehicle during the chase.
The SUV jumped on and off freeways from the Valley through West Los Angeles to downtown, weaving through peak-hour traffic, running red lights and driving on the wrong side of surface streets.
On the 110 Freeway approaching downtown, the driver came dangerously close to other vehicles; later reports said police detained multiple occupants after a parking-garage standoff and kept searching for one person.
