More than half of Democratic dating app users say shared political beliefs are very important in choosing a match, versus about a quarter of Republicans and independents, according to an SSRS survey cited in the report.
Profiles in major U.S. cities increasingly use political labels, pronouns and issue slogans to screen out potential partners before any conversation, turning swiping into what the report calls a political purity test.
The report argues those filters function less as value checks than as social signaling, with users advertising group identity through phrases such as "no fascists" or "will not date a Republican."
That shift, it says, can exclude otherwise compatible partners over partisan cues while doing little to identify traits more closely tied to relationship failure, such as dishonesty, contempt or infidelity.
