DSA Unveils 16-Point Platform for Radical US Overhaul as Republicans Revive 'Communist' Attacks

Summary
The Democratic Socialists of America laid out a 16-point program calling for sweeping changes including abolishing the Senate, ICE, prisons and eventually police, while replacing the presidency and Supreme Court with bodies subordinate to Congress.
The platform also pushes a 32-hour workweek with full pay, free public education through college, student-debt cancellation, universal no-cost healthcare, social housing, wealth taxes and public ownership of major industries.
Many of those goals face steep political and legal barriers: rewriting the Constitution would be required for several planks, and even narrower Democratic priorities such as universal pre-K, student-debt relief and higher federal wages have stalled.
The agenda is complicating Democratic politics as New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Wisconsin candidate Francesca Hong draw scrutiny over ties to democratic socialism, even as both distance themselves from parts of the DSA line.
Republicans are seizing on that opening to brand Democrats as communists—Donald Trump used the term 13 times in one Michigan appearance—turning upcoming August primaries into an early test of how far socialist politics can travel.
