China Intensifies Insider Crackdown, Probing 21 Executives Across 20 Listed Firms

Summary
At least 21 controlling shareholders, chairmen, directors and senior executives at 20 Chinese listed companies were put under investigation in the first half of 2026.
More than two-thirds of the cases involved suspected disclosure-rule breaches, with the rest covering short-swing trading, illegal share sales, market manipulation and insider trading.
Regulators are increasingly targeting individuals rather than listed companies as Beijing tries to rebuild confidence in battered stock markets and curb harm to retail investors.
Regulatory inquiries into 43 listed companies through June affected more than 2.5 million retail investor accounts, and most targeted firms hit their daily down limit after disclosures.
One recent case showed the tougher line: Pengyao Environmental controller Wang Hongchun received a suspended 2.5-year sentence, a 10.6 million yuan fine and forfeiture of 5.26 million yuan.
