Yes, potentially—but not necessarily. Removing the dedicated hub means the new SwitchBot fan now depends directly on the home’s Wi‑Fi for Matter connectivity, so on a crowded or weak network it can be more vulnerable to congestion than a hub-based or Thread-based device. The tradeoff is convenience versus network isolation. With native Matter-over-Wi‑Fi, the fan no longer needs a SwitchBot Hub, which simplifies setup and cuts extra hardware. But Wi‑Fi smart devices share airtime with phones, TVs, laptops, cameras, and other gadgets. In homes with dozens of connected devices, that can lead to slower response times, dropouts, or router instability. Reporting from smart-home users and network guides shows that heavy numbers of Wi‑Fi IoT devices can strain consumer routers, while Thread devices avoid that by operating on a separate mesh. That does not mean the fan will be unstable in normal use.
