Bill Belichick said North Carolina has made "a few adjustments" to internal duties as preseason camp opened with general manager Michael Lombardi on paid administrative leave.
UNC said Thursday its Office of University Counsel is investigating Lombardi, and two people familiar with the matter said a former employee's human resources complaint is involved.
Steve Newmark and Chancellor Lee Roberts said the school learned of concerns last week and is letting a full review proceed without discussing specifics; university policy says administrative leave generally should not exceed 30 days.
The disruption comes one month before UNC's Aug. 29 opener against TCU in Dublin, with Lombardi's heaviest roster-building work largely in the offseason after helping assemble the team.
Lombardi, hired when Belichick arrived in December 2024, is on a three-year deal worth $1.5 million through 2027 after a 4-5 debut season for the NFL-style program.
