AdGuard Cuts Family Security Suite to $39.97 From $439.39 Through Aug. 9

Q: With a massive discount on advanced security tech, what hidden catch awaits new users in heavily restricted regions?

The main catch is that the VPN may not work reliably in heavily restricted regions, including places such as China, despite the steep discount and long-term term. Promotional material tied to the AdGuard deal explicitly warns that the service “may not work as expected” in heavily restricted regions, and other offer copy says it may not work optimally in China. That matters because users in such markets often buy VPNs primarily to get around network controls. If the local filtering system blocks or degrades VPN traffic, the five-year subscription can be far less useful than it appears on paper. There are other practical limits new users should weigh. AdGuard VPN supports major platforms, but newer app versions require relatively recent operating systems, including Android 9+, iOS 15.4+, macOS 12+, and Windows 8+. Older devices may need outdated versions or may not be supported at all. Independent reviews also suggest performance is uneven: nearby servers can be fast, but distant servers may slow significantly, and access to major streaming services is inconsistent. The broader value proposition still exists. The bundle includes a lifetime ad blocker, tracker blocking, phishing protection, parental controls, and coverage for multiple devices. But in tightly controlled internet environments, the hidden risk is simple: the VPN portion of the package may be blocked, unstable, or ineffective, reducing the real-world value of the deal for the users who may need it most.

$39.97 buys AdGuard’s Family Security Suite through Aug. 9, down from $439.39 with no coupon required.
The package combines a 5-year VPN for up to 10 devices with a lifetime ad blocker covering up to nine devices on Android and iOS.
AdGuard says the VPN uses encrypted connections, a zero-logging policy and 60-plus global locations to support private browsing and bypass geographic limits.
The bundle also includes parental controls, pitching the deal as both a cybersecurity upgrade and a way to remove pop-ups, banners and video ads.
