Samsung Browser on Galaxy Watches Adds 10MB Image Downloads

Galaxy Watch users can now save web images because Samsung updated its Wear OS browser to download image files directly into the watch’s internal storage, but they still need another app to open them because Samsung Browser does not function as a full image viewer. The new feature adds a “Download Image” option when users long-press supported images on a webpage. Those files are stored in the watch’s Downloads folder and appear in a new Downloads section inside Samsung Browser. But inside the browser, users only see thumbnails and basic management tools such as delete, multi-select, and select-all. That means Samsung has added file saving, not full file handling. To actually view the downloaded PNG, JPG, JPEG, or GIF file as an image, users need a separate Wear OS file manager or gallery app that can open files from local storage. Apps such as a third-party file manager fill that gap. The limitation reflects the current state of Wear OS on watches: apps are often specialized, and Samsung Browser’s new feature is mainly aimed at quick saving and light file management rather than turning the watch into a complete photo-browsing device. Samsung’s own watch gallery features are generally built around photos synced from a phone, not images downloaded directly from the browser. There are other limits as well. Downloads are capped at 10MB, only certain formats are supported, and the image can only be saved after the full webpage has loaded.

Samsung has enabled image downloads in Samsung Browser on Wear OS Galaxy Watches, letting users save PNG, JPEG, JPG and GIF files directly from webpages.
A long press on an image now brings up a Download Image button, and saved files appear in the browser app's Downloads section.
The new feature works only after a webpage fully loads, even when the target image is already visible, leaving a usability limitation Samsung may address later.
Samsung said the update extends the capabilities of its One UI Watch apps, adding another feature to its smartwatch software lineup.
