Seattle Pays Ex-Chief Shon Barnes Over $590,000 After 18-Month Tenure

$590,000-plus will go to former Seattle police chief Shon Barnes under a resignation settlement, including about $560,000 for 18 months of salary and roughly $30,000 for a year of COBRA coverage.
The deal also lets Barnes keep a $50,000 hiring bonus and a $60,000 relocation benefit, and bars him from suing the city.
Barnes resigned Thursday after a week of turmoil following a Seattle Center shooting that killed three people and injured four.
His departure came after only about 18 months on the job, despite contract language that typically requires partial repayment if an officer leaves before five years.
