Probably not completely, but it would be a real blow to one of Slipknot’s defining textures. If the report is true, Wilson’s exit would matter because his role has never been just cosmetic. Since joining in 1998, he has supplied scratching, samples, keyboards, sound effects and the eerie background noise that helped make Slipknot feel more chaotic, industrial and cinematic than a standard metal band. Those layers are part of the atmosphere on records from the 1999 debut through *The End, So Far*, and they also shape the band’s live intensity. That said, Slipknot has survived major lineup changes before, including the losses of Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Craig Jones and Jay Weinberg. Jim Root used Instagram Stories to urge fans not to “believe everything you read,” a post widely read as a response to reports that Sid Wilson was fired from Slipknot on Friday.
TMZ cited a source close to the band saying Wilson was ejected, but neither Slipknot nor Wilson has confirmed any departure or given a reason.
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998 as member No. 9 and has appeared on every studio album through 2022’s The End, So Far, plus this year’s release of Look Outside Your Window.
If Wilson is out, only 4 members from the lineup that played on Slipknot’s debut album would remain: Shawn Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root and Mick Thomson.
