Summary
48-year-old Derek Reid was taken into custody Thursday and charged with involuntary manslaughter and other driving offenses in the June 24 hit-and-run that killed Temple student Bryce Wolfe.
Police said Wolfe, 20, was riding his 2004 Triumph motorcycle on Kelly Drive around 11:15 p.m. when Reid's SUV entered his path during a failed U-turn attempt.
More than 1 mile after the crash, investigators said, the fleeing driver dragged Wolfe beneath the SUV before he became dislodged near Fountain Green Drive; he was pronounced dead at 4:41 a.m. June 25.
Reid was also wanted in a 2021 child rape case, is being held on bail, and is due back in court on Aug. 17.
Wolfe had just finished his sophomore year at Temple as an actuarial science major in the honors program after graduating from Hazleton Area in 2024.
