Summary
Five Republican contenders — Ralph Norman, Darline Graham, Russell Fry, Mark Lynch and Mark Sanford — will meet in a one-hour Columbia debate Monday, one week before South Carolina’s Aug. 11 special Senate primary.
The SCGOP limited the stage to the top 5 polling candidates from non-campaign-funded surveys, saying a compressed race and 1-hour format require a smaller field for more substantive exchanges.
Early voting begins 2 days after the debate, raising the stakes in a contest party chairman Drew McKissick said is likely headed to a runoff because of the crowded field.
Five other Republicans — Duke Buckner, Danny Ford II, Mark McBride, Glenda Gail Parker and Samuel Shepherd — remain in the race but did not qualify under the party’s debate rules.
The debate, hosted by Gray Media at WIS studios and airing live from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., is part of a broader SCGOP push to boost voter engagement beyond short campaign ads.
