Ryoji Yamada also said Sony may extend its lightweight 16-bit X-OCN compressed RAW codecs to more cameras if creator demand is strong enough.
For the new FX5, firmware version 2.0 is slated for August 2027 or later, adding a dedicated still-capture feature while Sony evaluates IBIS and autofocus support in anamorphic shooting.
The comments fit a broader strategy of longer product lifecycles through firmware updates and a new naming scheme as Sony’s single-digit FX lineup fills up.
