Brad Karp was forced to step down as Paul Weiss chairman after Justice Department-released Epstein files exposed a deeper-than-disclosed relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
A 2019 email showed Karp advising Epstein on a legal filing against women who accused him of abuse as minors, even though Epstein was not a Paul Weiss client.
The resignation capped months of turmoil after Karp cut a deal with the Trump White House, including $40 million in pro bono work, instead of challenging an executive order targeting major law firms.
That agreement split the firm internally after Trump publicly added claims about ending DEI policies and Karp acknowledging wrongdoing, prompting backlash, attorney departures and concerns that Karp had become a liability.
