Shadle Park High School will host a free emergency drop-in camp Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for wildfire-affected families across the Nine Mile, Mead and Spokane school areas.
Children ages 4 and older can attend while parents rest, run errands or handle urgent needs; staff will supervise activities and lunch will be served at noon through the federal summer meals program.
Spokane Public Schools said it could add more camp sites and open cooling centers depending on demand, while meal service remains suspended at Flett Middle School, Linwood Elementary and Ridgeview Elementary inside evacuation zones.
Flett Middle School and Indian Trail Elementary escaped damage despite nearby fire activity, and the district is directing affected families to the Spokane Convention Center and free YMCA access for showers and daytime use.
