Hundreds of executive interviews cited by consultant Nikhil Suresh depict a workplace culture where leaders overstate AI results because admitting weak returns can cost them promotions or even their jobs.
In 500-plus-employee companies he studied, Suresh says staff who voiced doubts were sidelined or laid off, while workers learned to “AI wash” routine work and even fabricate token-heavy chatbot workflows to satisfy management.
Suresh says he has seen public-company claims of AI success that “never took place” and found 0% success across enterprise AI projects reviewed over the past year and a half, arguing most firms still struggle to run basic software projects.
That account deepens a broader pullback already visible in corporate AI spending, where companies have begun trimming token use after pouring millions into systems with high costs and uncertain returns.
