Cartagena Spider-Man Screening Evacuated After 1 Moviegoer's Gas Clears Theater

Q: Did the Marvel fans who fled the unbearable odor at the Cartagena theater ever receive refunds for missing the ending?

There is no confirmed evidence that the Cartagena moviegoers received refunds. Reports from The New York Post, Jam Press and other follow-up coverage say the screening at the Cine Colombia multiplex was disrupted by a powerful foul odor, but the theater did not officially cancel the showing. Other auditoriums reportedly continued operating normally, and some patrons even tried to return and finish the film. That detail matters because the available coverage does not mention Cine Colombia announcing refunds, compensation or complimentary re-entry for those who left and missed the ending. The reporting only confirms that many viewers abandoned the screening before the credits because the smell lingered. So, based on the public record so far, the answer is no documented refunds have been reported. It remains possible that individual customers sought help from the theater afterward, but no published source provided evidence that Marvel fans who fled were refunded.

Q: Was the viral odor that cleared a Colombian Spider-Man screening a genuine biological accident or a calculated stink-bomb prank?

There is no verified evidence that it was either a genuine biological accident or a deliberate prank. The most accurate answer is that the source of the odor remains unconfirmed. Reports from Cartagena agree on the basic facts: during an August 2 screening of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* at the Cine Colombia multiplex in Plaza Bocagrande, a powerful foul smell spread through the auditorium, prompting many moviegoers to leave and interrupting the showing. Videos posted online showed patrons covering their noses in the hallway, and no injuries were reported. What is missing is proof of cause. News coverage, including summaries based on witness accounts, floated two main explanations: an audience member who could not make it to the restroom in time, or a prank involving stink spray or a stink bomb. But the theater did not publicly identify a culprit, and no official statement appears to have settled the matter. The strongest factual takeaway is that the “fart attack” framing is based on social media descriptions and tabloid-style reporting, not a confirmed forensic finding. Because the smell reportedly lingered long enough to disrupt the screening, some observers consider a prank plausible. At the same time, there is no direct evidence publicly showing someone deploying a device or spray. So, from a reporting standpoint, the incident is real, but the cause is still unresolved. Any claim that it was definitely a bodily mishap or definitely a prank goes beyond the confirmed facts.
