Summary
Skye Borgman, director of Netflix's three-part "The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare," said Bryan Kohberger likely targeted a house with five women because he had a low regard for women.
Borgman said Kohberger watched the Moscow, Idaho, home for days, weeks and months before the 2022 stabbings, adding that his struggles with women could point to misogyny or an incel-linked motive.
FBI agent Ed Jacobson, who worked the case, said investigators found no evidence Kohberger belonged to the incel movement, though he said Kohberger was adept at hiding his online activity.
Kohberger pleaded guilty in July 2025 to murdering Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, receiving four consecutive life terms after a plea deal removed the death penalty.
The motive debate resurfaced as Kohberger has since sought to withdraw his guilty plea, claiming in a petition and a New York Times phone call that he is innocent and was misled into confessing.
