Ubisoft Opens New Ghost Recon Playtests as 25th-Anniversary Update Revives Wildlands and 2012 Future Soldier

Q: Will Xbox and PC players be left in the dark while PS5 gets this massive Ghost Recon upgrade tomorrow?

Probably not. The strongest evidence now suggests Ghost Recon Wildlands’ upgrade is not a PS5-only rollout, even if the clearest leak so far came from the PlayStation Store. In addition to the removed PS Store listing, separate Xbox storefront material reportedly advertised a “major update” for Wildlands with 4K and 60FPS support and a new mission, Last Rites, tied to August 6. Ubisoft’s own Ghost Recon social post also acknowledged that fans had “seen some updates” and said it will share more during the August 6 25th anniversary announcement. That wording points to a broader reveal rather than a PlayStation-exclusive surprise. What remains unclear is timing and platform parity. The PS5 path appears most concrete: a native PS5 version, free upgrade terms for digital PS4 owners, and possible DualSense features. On Xbox, the evidence points to Series X|S support, but Ubisoft has not yet said whether that means a native current-gen app or an enhanced Xbox One build. PC players are even less certain, because no leak has clearly outlined new PC-specific features or a release plan there. So Xbox players likely should not assume they are being left out, and may get the same 4K/60FPS upgrade around the same time. PC support is more ambiguous, since Wildlands already scales on PC and the leaked marketing has focused on console-style next-gen improvements. Until Ubisoft’s August 6 event, PS5 is the most confirmed platform, Xbox looks very likely, and PC remains unconfirmed.

Closed tests for a new Ghost Recon game are coming through a new insider program, with Ubisoft pitching the project as a tactical, large-scale military shooter true to the series.
The 25th-anniversary rollout also updates 2017's Ghost Recon: Wildlands with new Last Rites missions, the return of a Predator-themed mission, and graphics and gameplay settings including sharper 4K-targeted visuals.
Free copies of 2012's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier are available through Ubisoft Connect until August 13, though its multiplayer servers were shut down in 2021.
The push comes after a rocky stretch for the franchise: 2019's Breakpoint underperformed, and Ubisoft canceled free-to-play spinoff Frontline in 2022.
