Summary
Florida, West Virginia and Louisiana said they jointly issued an investigative subpoena to Anthony Fauci, demanding documents by Aug. 31 on alleged self-dealing tied to his Covid-19 guidance.
The subpoena covers records from Jan. 3, 2020, through the present, including grants, awards, book deals, board positions, vaccine messaging, booster and natural-immunity discussions, myocarditis risks and contacts with vaccine makers.
James Uthmeier said Fauci may have broken Florida law if he personally profited from recommendations that affected Florida businesses and consumers; Fauci has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, and his lawyer did not immediately comment.
The state action follows Fauci's Fifth Amendment invocation at a Senate hearing last week, where Republicans pressed him on pandemic policy and virus origins.
Thursday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is set to vote on holding Fauci in contempt; any referral would go to the Justice Department, while a January 2025 Biden pardon remains part of the dispute.
