Casetify Launches Galaxy Z Fold8 Cases From S$28, Adding 1.2m Drop Protection

Q: Why might the 9H tempered glass in Casetify’s new Fold8 screen protector still leave your premium foldable vulnerable to everyday sand?

Because “9H” on a tempered-glass protector is not a guarantee against all scratches, Casetify’s Fold8 protector can still be marked by ordinary sand. The key distinction is that 9H usually refers to the pencil-hardness test, a lab measure showing resistance to scratches from a very hard drafting pencil and many common pocket items such as keys or coins. It does not mean the glass has a Mohs hardness of 9. In real-world terms, tempered glass is typically around Mohs 6 to 7. That leaves it vulnerable to quartz and silica, the minerals found in everyday sand, which are around Mohs 7 and can scratch tempered glass. A single grain trapped in a pocket, bag or on a cloth can leave visible marks when rubbed across the surface. This matters even more on a premium foldable because foldables have larger exposed exterior displays and are often handled in ways that increase contact with grit, dust and debris. A screen protector can reduce routine wear, but it is not a shield against every abrasive material. Casetify’s anti-fingerprint and antimicrobial coatings may improve cleanliness and feel, but they do not change the underlying hardness limits of tempered glass. The practical takeaway is that the protector should be seen as protection against common everyday scuffs, not immunity from sand-based scratches.

Casetify rolled out accessories for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8, led by an Impact Magnetic Case with the brand’s first smooth-gliding hinge cover.
The new case is built to protect the hinge without obstructing folding, while EcoShock material and raised bezels are rated for drops of up to 1.2 meters.
Casetify also introduced an Impact HD Screen Protector with 9H tempered glass, plus anti-fingerprint and antimicrobial coatings, and a camera lens protector designed to avoid flash hazing.
Prices range from S$28 to S$99 through Casetify’s website, with the slim case design aimed especially at the lighter, more pocket-friendly Fold8.
