Walmart Cuts Anker 140W Charger to $65, More Than 50% Off

Q: Why is Walmart suddenly slashing the price of Anker's ultra-powerful 140W GaN charger to an unprecedented all-time low?

The likeliest reason is a retailer-driven promotional push rather than any sign of a product problem. Walmart appears to be using the Anker 140W Max charger as a traffic-driving deal during a broader tech and seasonal savings push, and the discount is being framed as an all-time low by CamelCamelCamel. The charger is also entering a more competitive segment. Similar high-output GaN chargers from Anker, Satechi and others have been seeing aggressive price cuts, with 140W-class and even higher-wattage charging gear frequently discounted. As USB PD 3.1 chargers become more common and prices across the category ease, Walmart has room to cut deeper on a premium model that originally carried a much higher price. There is also a practical market reason: 140W charging is a niche need for many buyers. The product is best suited to power-hungry laptops such as 16-inch MacBook Pro-class machines, while many phones, tablets and mainstream laptops do fine with 65W to 100W chargers. Heavy discounting can broaden appeal beyond enthusiasts and clear inventory faster. Nothing in the available information suggests a recall or safety issue. On the contrary, the charger is being marketed on its strengths: GaN efficiency, four ports, smart display, ActiveShield-style temperature monitoring, and an included 240W cable. In short, Walmart is likely combining a category-wide price war, seasonal promotion, and demand expansion for a premium accessory that otherwise targets a narrower audience.

Q: Does a massive $70 discount on this high-speed charger hide the secret that your everyday devices might not even need it?

No. The $70 discount does not hide a flaw, but the charger’s headline 140-watt speed is more than many people need. The Anker 140W Max is a strong value at $65 because it combines four ports, GaN efficiency, a built-in display, thermal protections and enough power to handle demanding laptops. For buyers with a 16-inch MacBook Pro-class machine or a high-end USB-C laptop that supports USB Power Delivery 3.1, this is the kind of charger that can justify its wattage. The included 240W USB-C cable also matters, because full 140W charging requires a compatible PD 3.1 device and a properly rated cable. But for everyday devices, the extra power is often unnecessary. Most phones, earbuds and smartwatches use far less than 140W, and many mainstream tablets and laptops are well served by 65W to 100W chargers. A higher-watt charger will not force excess power into a device; USB Power Delivery lets the device draw only what it needs. That makes this charger safe for lower-power gadgets, but not automatically the smartest buy for everyone. The real question is not whether the charger is “too powerful,” but whether your setup benefits from it. If you want one compact brick to charge several devices at once, including a power-hungry laptop, this Walmart deal is unusually good. If your daily gear is mainly a phone, tablet and accessories, a cheaper 30W to 65W charger may be more practical.
