Summary
More than 120 U.S. Winter Olympians and Paralympians gathered at the White House on Aug. 6 as Donald Trump honored Team USA’s results from the Milano Cortina Games.
Fifty-seven medals came back to the United States from roughly 300 athletes, including 25 gold overall; Trump highlighted a record U.S. Winter Olympic gold total and 33 Olympic medals outside North America.
Twenty-four of those medals came from the Paralympic team, which won 13 golds across five sports, including a fifth straight sled hockey title that Trump called a historic dynasty.
Trump also singled out the men’s and women’s hockey teams for overtime wins over Canada, while noting some invitees missed the event because college and pro schedules kept them training.
The ceremony doubled as a bridge to the next cycle, with absent athletes already preparing for the 2030 French Alps Games and Trump pointing ahead to Salt Lake City’s 2034 Winter Olympics.
