Asus’ own FAQ says this process can sacrifice detail and sharpness, which matches reviewers’ reports that text becomes shimmery, blurry and harder to read. The limitation appears to come from the display pipeline inside the glasses rather than the dock itself. The dock is required to access that mode in the full setup, but Asus says the frame-rate boosting happens in the glasses through processing on the micro-OLED system. In practice, the tradeoff is smoother motion at the cost of image clarity. So the reason 240Hz turns into a blurry, unreadable mess is simple: the R1 achieves it by halving the image’s vertical resolution to 540 lines and then upscaling it, which introduces softness, shimmer and visible pixelation.
