Summary
Polk County deputies charged 21-year-old Gibson Nash with first-degree murder after finding his mother, nurse Margaret Chu Dufour, 56, beaten and strangled inside her Eagle Lake, Florida, home.
July 21 traffic crashes led investigators there: Nash allegedly fled an initial wreck in Dufour’s BMW, hit several more vehicles, injured three people, and was found unconscious and covered in blood.
Blood on Nash’s clothing was identified as his mother’s, and investigators cited bruising on his knuckles and feet that they say matched a prolonged beating and stomping attack.
April arrests in Tennessee had already accused Nash of twice threatening to kill Dufour with a knife before she moved to Florida and later bonded him out to seek mental health treatment.
Nash is also charged with two felony counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and is being held without bond in Polk County.
