That makes ceramic better suited to a top-tier fashion or status model than an adventure watch. There is also a materials advantage behind the styling. Ceramic is non-conductive, which is useful in wearables that rely on wireless charging and dense sensor systems. Apple has long used zirconia ceramic on Apple Watch backs for that reason, citing durability, wear resistance, and compatibility with inductive charging. A full ceramic case would extend that premium, technically distinctive feel to the exterior. The trade-off is that ceramic is more brittle than titanium, so it is less ideal for the Ultra’s rugged positioning. But for Apple’s most exclusive wearable, that is precisely the point: ceramic is not about surviving the harshest expedition better than titanium. It is about offering a rarer material, a jewelry-like finish, and a more obviously luxurious identity that justifies a higher price tier.
