Q: Is the Pixel 11's rumored price hike truly justified by base storage upgrades and the flashy new HiLight feature?

Not really—at least not on the leaks alone. A $100 increase is easier to defend on the base Pixel 11 if Google truly drops 128GB and starts at 256GB. That is a meaningful upgrade, especially because 128GB has long felt tight once apps, photos, video and AI features pile up. In effect, buyers may be paying more but also getting the storage tier many would have chosen anyway. The case is weaker on the Pro side. Leaks suggest the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL may also rise by about $100, but some configurations could start with 12GB of RAM instead of 16GB. If that proves true, Google would be charging more while reducing memory on certain models, which undercuts the value argument even if storage increases. HiLight looks more like a differentiator than a true pricing driver. The rear RGB LED appears useful for face-down notifications, favorite-contact alerts and Gemini cues, and it may double as a flash. But this is a convenience feature, not the kind of hardware leap that normally justifies flagship-level price jumps on its own. Google does have a broader defense: it has publicly pointed to a severe RAM cost surge across the industry, with memory prices reportedly rising severalfold. That makes some increase understandable. Even so, consumers usually judge value by what they get in hand. Based on current leaks, the storage bump helps justify part of the hike, but HiLight does not—and any RAM cut would make the increase much harder to defend.

Geekbench showed the Pixel 11 Pro XL with 16GB of RAM, Android 17 and Tensor G6, one day before Google’s Made by Google launch event.
Tensor G6 appears to use a 7-core CPU — two cores at 2.65GHz, four at 3.38GHz and one prime core at 4.11GHz — giving the phone 2,112 single-core and 5,196 multi-core scores.
Leaked hands-on images of the Pixel 11 Pro showed the phone in black, while retail packaging also revealed a Dune color variant.
The images also highlighted a large RGB LED in the rear camera bar, a feature recent leaks say Google will market as HiLight.
Previous leaks have pointed to Dune, Light Fog, Midnight Haze and Pine color options for the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL lineup.
