Leveque joined the Angels this season from Double-A Rocket City after 20 years in the Cardinals system, including roles as pitching analyst and senior minor league pitching coordinator.
Wuertz, in his 11th year with the Angels organization, had been the club's minor league assistant pitching coordinator after coaching at multiple affiliates and pitching 8 major league seasons.
The shake-up follows a staff slump: Los Angeles entered with MLB's seventh-worst 4.53 ERA and the league's highest 11.1% walk rate.
