A flood watch remains in effect through Thursday morning for parts of North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia as repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms raise flooding risks.
Northwest North Carolina, much of western Virginia and southeast West Virginia are under the alert, including counties such as Ashe, Watauga, Roanoke, Mercer and Greenbrier.
Excessive runoff could flood rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas, with poor-drainage and urban locations also vulnerable as waterways may rise out of their banks.
Forecasters said flash flooding is possible through midweek and urged residents in flood-prone areas to monitor updates and be ready to act if warnings are issued.
