In pre-fight remarks, he said he is “not ready” to declare Makhachev the greatest of all time yet and wants to assess both the result and the performance after UFC 330. He has framed Makhachev as being “on the right path,” not as someone who would automatically settle the debate with one more win. If Makhachev beats Ian Machado Garry, the historical argument becomes much stronger. He would defend a welterweight title after already setting the UFC lightweight title-defense record, remain the promotion’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, and reportedly break Anderson Silva’s UFC record by reaching 17 straight wins. That would add to an already elite résumé spanning two divisions. But GOAT status in MMA remains subjective and comparative.
