Portland Police Arrest Knife Suspect After 3-Hour Standoff, Damaging Drone and Robot

A knife suspect was taken into custody Wednesday evening after a shelter-in-place in northwest Portland ended at 4:44 p.m.
Police said officers spotted the man around 1:55 p.m. near NW 16th Avenue and NW Northrup Street, where he matched a suspect wanted for weeks of knife threats and fled holding a large bladed weapon.
A perimeter was set from NW Overton to NW Northrup and NW 18th to NW 19th after the suspect ran into a vacant basement apartment beneath a business with people inside.
Chemical munitions and a K9 were used after the suspect tried to break out a side window; police said he destroyed a drone, damaged a robot and struck the dog with a metal pipe.
The K9 was not seriously hurt and subdued the suspect, while officers recovered a bladed weapon as evidence in the investigation.
