FedEx, UPS and DHL Start Returning Billions in Trump Tariffs as Court-Ordered Refunds Reach Shippers

Summary
FedEx, UPS and DHL have begun sending tariff refunds to customers who paid import charges on overseas packages, marking the final consumer-facing step after the U.S. returned tariff money to customs brokers.
The payouts stem from a February Supreme Court ruling that voided Trump’s 2025 tariffs imposed under the 1977 emergency-powers law and ordered the government to repay what it collected.
About $100 billion has already been refunded to companies through U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but most households will recover only a fraction because tariffs were usually embedded in retail prices rather than billed directly.
FedEx said it is returning $800 million automatically to eligible cards or bank accounts, while UPS has sought an initial $500 million of the $5 billion it paid for clients and DHL says it has filed claims for nearly all eligible shipments.
