Summary
Hubble and CFHT data revealed Oyashio in ultra-diffuse galaxy UGC 9050-Dw1 — the first reported globular-cluster stellar stream beyond the Milky Way — at a distance of 35.2 million parsecs.
A 2-kpc arc with a 72.3-pc width, 7.34 signal prominence and colors matching a nearby cluster candidate supports a disrupted globular-cluster origin rather than a dwarf-galaxy stream, shell, lensing arc or dust feature.
Generative stream modeling put the progenitor below 2.5 million solar masses and inferred a host halo of about 10^11.63 solar masses, providing the first stream-based dark-matter constraint for an ultra-diffuse galaxy.
That halo estimate broadly matches earlier globular-cluster-count results and suggests UGC 9050-Dw1 is relatively massive for its faint appearance, with an inner density slope less cored than some other ultra-diffuse galaxies.
The finding extends stellar-stream analysis beyond the Milky Way and could open a new route to probing dark matter and subhalos in diffuse galaxies with Hubble, JWST, Euclid and Roman.
