500ml Daily Orange Juice Alters Thousands of Genes in 60 Days, Easing Heart-Risk Pathways

Summary
A 60-day study found adults drinking 500ml of pure pasteurized orange juice daily changed the activity of thousands of immune-cell genes, with lower activity in inflammation- and blood-pressure-linked genes including IL6, IL1B, NLRP3 and SGK1.
Those shifts may help explain why orange juice has been tied to better heart health: researchers say citrus compounds such as hesperidin appear to reduce inflammation, improve blood-vessel relaxation and influence sugar and cholesterol regulation rather than simply raising blood sugar.
A review of 15 controlled trials covering 639 participants found regular orange juice consumption lowered insulin resistance and blood cholesterol, while studies in overweight or obese adults reported small drops in systolic blood pressure and higher HDL.
Benefits were not uniform across studies or body types, but evidence also points to improved endothelial function in 68 obese participants and microbiome changes that increased short-chain-fatty-acid-producing bacteria linked to healthier blood pressure and lower inflammation.
The report says whole fruit remains the better choice because of fiber, yet a modest daily glass of pure orange juice may deliver cumulative cardiovascular benefits over time.
