Summary
Bir Saliba, about 30 km north of el-Geneina, became the latest flashpoint as Sudanese army-backed forces beat back two RSF assaults and Darfur officials said RSF field commander Mahdi Adam was killed.
More than 38 RSF combat vehicles were destroyed and 27 seized, according to the Joint Force, which said it also foiled an attempted encirclement from the Kulbus and Jebel Moon directions.
Air strikes near the Chad border and seizures of crossings and desert routes have tightened pressure on RSF supply lines, with army allies casting the gains as preparation for a decisive battle for el-Geneina.
In North Kordofan, RSF has increasingly relied on drones after losing the Omdurman-el-Obeid route on July 27, a shift allied factions say reflects weaker capacity for direct ground fighting.
More than 6,650 people from 11 villages in Sirba were newly displaced by the escalation, adding to over 13 million uprooted since Sudan's war began in April 2023.
